Counselor Mentz successfully negotiates with CFA-Insttute AIMR, the CFP Board and the Institute of Management Accountants
1) The IBS International Board of Standards – GAFM ® (or any other name it goes by) accepts the CFPâ„¢ Board of Standards co-existence legal trademark mutual recognition agreement November 8th, 2002 – AAFM ® reaches co-existence agreement with CFPâ„¢ Board Worldwide. Whereas, the certifications of: MFP ® Master Financial Professional â„¢ , RFA Registered Financial Analystâ„¢, and RFS Registered Financial Specialistâ„¢ Designations are agreed upon for ® global use and will become Worldwide Financial Designations.
The Board is an independent self regulatory financial organization, but it was agreed that there would be no objection by CFPâ„¢ to our use, registration or proliferation of the marks MFP Master Financial Professional or RFA Registered Financial Analystâ„¢, and RFS Registered Financial Specialistâ„¢ if used. In November of 2002, we provided the CFP Board due consideration for the agreement and not to interfere with the Academy and its intellectual property. . Throughout negotiations CFP ® lawyers had no objection to Academy and GAFM ® Board’s pre-existing use and ownership of CWM®, CPM, CRA, CPM, CTEP, RFS, CAM or other board designations offered.
2) AIMR Agreement – CFA Institute in Legal Agreement with Academy and Board of Standards
Attorney George Mentz represented the Academy (DBA GAFM ® Board of Standards) to a legal agreement with the the CFA Institute (formerly the Association for Investment Management & Research. Counselor Mentz and the Academy reached a global trademark and coexistence agreement. The agreement allows Mr. Mentz and the Academy to use some 15 financial and executive training board certified designations worldwide while the Academy or GAFM has provided due consideration to the CFA institute and agreed to abandon 2 older registered trademarks in return for this recognition of the IP of the Academy i.e. Chartered Financial Management Analyst CFMA & Financial Analyst.
The GAFM Board of Standards had decided to abandon any disputed designations at issue so as to achieve this landmark trademark agreement. The AAFM’s New Financial Analysis Designation will be AFA Accredited Financial Analyst and Financial Analyst Designate FADâ„¢ and CMA Chartered Market Analyst. This month, the older disputed AAFM Char. Fin. Mgt. Analyst Designation Trademark would be abandoned by AAFM at the request of the AIMR.
Because AAFM ® has reached agreement with AIMR ™ Worldwide, MFP ® Master Financial Professional™ and RFS Registered Financial Specialist™ Designations are designated for global use and will also become Worldwide Financial Designations under a similar agreement with the CFP™ Board this year. AAFM is an independent self regulatory financial board of standards with members in over 150 countries, but it was agreed that there would be no objection by AIMR™ of AAFMs use, registration or proliferation of 15 designations and brand marks including MFP Master Financial Professional and RFS Registered Financial Specialist™.
AIMR has also agreed to allow AAFM ® to use the following trademarks without objection.

Attorney and General Counsel Prof. G. S. 3) ChFM Chartered Financial Manager Trademark Agreement – The IMA Institute of Management Accountants and the GAFM International Board of Standards agreed to allow the GAFM to use the ChFM trademark worldwide. The GAFM will focus on conferring this designation and Charter to qualified professionals who work in banking, investing, brokerage, risk and insurance businesses.
